Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 + benefits

Our client is a small, well-backed and fast-growing business, located in Derby, supplying specialist engineering services. The company is a well-established player in their sector, with a strong reputation for the highest quality workmanship, excellent customer service and innovation. The now seek to appoint a proven Production Engineer, to drive efficiency into the production area of the business and to close the gap between NPD & estimation and the reality of production and delivery. The goal is to improve efficiency, reduce costs and speed up the time of delivery and to manage and improve the flow of information & expectations between all stakeholders.

The work that they undertake is often bespoke - all engineering based, welding, machining and fabricating etc, all within the Rail, rolling stock sector and the role would suit someone with experience of repair or overhaul or a similar bespoke type of environment.

The role will oversee activity both on site in Derby and their off-site teams too - you will need to travel to visit these sites from time to time.

The Role

  • Study current processes analysing actuals against estimates to drive improvements
  • Construction /development of work stations, assembly jigs and test apparatus.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings and subsequent detailed work instructions for operatives.
  • Manage projects including estimating, planning, supplier management, coordinating teams both internal and external.
  • Maintain a set of engineering KPIs to report upon performance and progress.
  • To support new product launch including prototype development and workshop trials
  • To produce & develop work instructions / standard operating procedures.
  • Supporting both offsite and onsite activities with a requirement to travel and overnight stays
  • To respond to tooling /assistance requests, and to identify and obtain the tools or equipment required.
  • To ensure all processes are designed to incorporate safe systems of work and follow best practice ergonomics.
  • Management and planning of equipment maintenance
  • To schedule and conduct routine maintenance checks.
  • To support the QA and compliance department with final inspections, investigating complaints and lessons learnt
  • To support the production leadership with health and safety matters
  • To have good knowledge of all Tecforce products and service offerings
